Wise Words

Wise Words

A Story by Jeffrey Backer
"

General heartbreak

"
When I was just eight I ran crying to my Uncle Joe who was the cobbler of our village and a very wise mystic. When I grabbed his leg, Uncle Joe asked, "Why are you crying" ? I slobbered a messy reply, " The neighbors girls said unfair, mean words against me when only this morning they had offered me chocolate!"
My Uncle gazed long at the magical blue in the most lovely sky and looked deeply at me and said, " My hurting nephew. . . bitter, cruel words hurt, yes that is true but they will make you very strong and hard someday. Like a fierce hurricane ." He then struck his chest hard with his sharp fist and closed his eyes so taut as if he was straining to stay earthbound. His lips became a seam while his proud ancient warrior soul battled a tragic memory .
As he exhaled long and intensely he whispered these pained words to me carefully , "Its the gentle lovely words that will tear you apart with its sweet laced wings and erotic feverish venom. These will be your bouquet of regrets."
I now know what he was trying to teach me years later when I became old enough to understand.
He was very wise..and loved once.

Hey I really liked this. I particulary liked the last lines that describe the soft spoken words with their sweet laced wings and feverish erotic venom. Excellently put.I also enjoyed the ancient warrior fighting for the right words as he would have done an old enemy in ages past. This is short in its length but it is packed with wisdom and tiny gems that glisten and sparkle though out the piece. I came away after reading it a little older but a whole lot wiser thank you for sharing
