Lucid

Lucid

A Poem by Jeffrey Backer

Born to the sea where in my youth I did slither
One day I swam to the soil to search for a sliver
Of dignified hope and perhaps my own story
But all that I found was a world quite deploring
Nothing but vanity and heaps of the Jaded
I was jolted with shock of the mess they created
My dreams like a new coat became tattered and worn
That's why I made my way back to the shore
Allowing lucidity to swallow my seething
I pray that no one will remember the day I tried breathing

Sharp inhale on that last line - liked being drawn into the narrative!
