What I Want to HearA Poem by Zapatafree verse, for a poetry project for school
If I lay very still and very quietly
I can hear my own heartbeat echo through my head. If I lie very still and close my eyes, I can almost hear him whisper, "I love you" in my ear. I lie very still and close my eyes, How do I hear what I want to hear? For now she'll let him call her beautiful, And give her tight hugs and kisses, And write love letters signed with little hearts, And show her his favorite music, And call her late at night just so he can remind her, That he loves her. But she doesn't have to believe it, Because that's only what she wants to hear, And I only hear what I want to hear. © 2013 Zapata |
