In a Night, In a Dream

In a Night, In a Dream

A Poem by Tracey Gould

I thought I lost you,
But there you were
A million light years,
And tears,
Away

A flash in a smile,
A hint of a fragrance
And I go back
Forever
And a day

"The Day" always comes and goes
Hard and painful,
Another year further from you
Another year closer to you
Still

Bouquet of flowers
Ordered and sent
This day my turn,
Next time Kelley's,
Always lilies

My heart harbored grief
My exterior like leather
Pretender, faker
Another message to the ghost
Of you

Grief overpowers me
Can't speak the message
The words I long to say to you
The words I should've said to you
Still

You visited me once
In a night, in my dream
It was you I am sure
The healthy, happy, and vibrant
You

I longed for you to stay,
You could not
I longed to go with you,
I could not for I had work to be
Done

Motherly love comforted me
Smile on your face eased me
Gentle embrace warmed me
Hope in your eyes assured me
Still

"The Day" came and went
This year, but it was different
I did not mourn, I did not grieve
My heart gave me reprieve as I forgot
"The Day"

You visited me recently,
In a night, in a dream
And it was different - I believed
