Tears Fall on My PillowA Poem by Tracey GouldYour scent on your pillow Gave rise to my spirit, my soul Looking at the day ahead Adventures to be had, Memories to be made
Solo in the Big City Just me against the world While you’re 30,000 feet above Somewhere over the mid-west
New places, new faces Broadway to 28th Street One train after another, Each foot in front of the other
Reminiscing of a love found, lost, Then found and lost again Another subway stop, People step on and step off.
Their faces are cloudy Your face replaces theirs The kiss good-bye One last, endearing whisper in my ear
Five-blocks here, five blocks there Blisters forming on my heel-clad feet My Calvin Klein suit sticks To my body in the New York heat
Waiting for opportunity to knock A door to open, life anew Reality hits, life without you Sets in again
A cruel joke, fate teases me Connections made, two hearts as one Even if for one night, Save six months
The long walk back to 46th and Broadway Grab my suitcase, short taxi ride Taking the PATH train to Jersey People step on and step off
Their faces are cloudy Your face replaces theirs Two more trains and a shuttle van
Nine thirty, the sun has long set My empty room calls me Beckons me to rest I give in, exhausted
Collapsing on the rock hard bed I clutch my pillow, closing my eyes For a moment, you’re there Right beside me, reaching for me
Your breath upon my face, Your hands on my body, Your eyes looking through me Reminiscing of a love found, lost, Then found and lost again As tears fall on my pillow. (c) 2008. Tracey Gould. All rights reserved. © 2014 Tracey Gould
