In Reverence the Wildflowers

In Reverence the Wildflowers

A Poem by Toni Prehoda Kahler
"

Remembering the forest where I once sought God

"
Here I am,
beside these twinned white
bells of Solomon's Seal,
here, among the ferns I bow
to worship You,
Creator of color, form, and fragrance.

I am on my knees,
You must be near.

You are near, yes,
yes, You have hidden
mercies for one who seeks---

  I part the Maiden Hair
  to find Your gifts:
  two furry purple Cat's Ears;
  a single pink Calypso thrusting
  up from beneath the tangled, heart-shaped
  green of Wild Ginger.

This silence is a church hymn playing;
each breath of breeze is my release.

No white pillars hold the sky,
only rough gray bark and fallen majesties
encircle this cathedral.
Wide-open now, I feel You,
Beautiful Creator.

Two branches shaped
like the cross where you died
lean forward into
my heart whispering
Holy, Holy,
Holy
