Sweet Thursday Melody

Sweet Thursday Melody

A Poem by E. A. Lide

O, sweet Thursday melody,

O, still and silent pond:

I skip stones across your surface

and wonder what's beyond.

I sit on this rock beside you,

dip my toes and sigh and yawn,

and look at my reflection,

and wonder what's beyond.

O, quiet humming whisper

in my ear when it is dark,

O, glass of wine at sunset:

how swollen is your heart?

I lay in this bed beside you,

and watch your sleeping form,

and all the while ask myself,

"What could this all be for?"

O, lovely, misty dawn-break,

O, frost upon the leaves:

you take my hand into your own

and make me question my beliefs.

I walk along this road beside you,

not knowing where it leads,

but nonetheless I follow you,

for you're the only thing I need.
