Due to the out break of COVID 19, the festival is going to be celebrated with under lots of rules and safety measures. The Supreme Court on Monday lifted its June 18 ban on the conduct of Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra after ensuring a complete lack of public attendance for the festival to avoid spread of infection amid a pandemic. Hindus believe that mere darshan or glimpse of Lords give you salvation during Rath Yatra time, Pulling or touching the chariots can be your blessing of life time. Lakhs of devotees are coming Puri every year to participate in the festival. It is the only time when non-Hindus can see lords easily. But this year it is not possible. Tuesday's Rath Yatra was made possible after the Supreme Court removed its stay on the age-old yatra considered sacred by Hindus. Following the top court's order, Puri district authorities, Shri Jagannath Temple priests and servitors, civic authorities, officials from the Naveen Patnaik government in Odisha made a late night dash to ensure the Supreme Court guidelines were followed. Over 50 platoons of police force (one platoon has 30 personnel) had been deployed and CCTVs installed at various locations as part of the security arrangement for the nine-day festival, officials said, adding, all entry points to Puri were sealed. The Rath Yatra this year pulled by only 500 persons. Each of the those 500 persons were tested for the Corona virus. There shall be an interval of one hour between two chariots. Each of those who is engaged in pulling the chariot are maintaining social distancing before, during and after the Rath Yatra. During the period of curfew, no one would be allowed to comeout of their houses or their places of residence in Puri, such as hotels, lodging houses etc. Ratha Yatra 2020 is going to be covered by the visual media.
