Today Buddhism is one of the major world religions that is based on the philosophy of Lord Buddha. Siddhartha Gautama, a royal prince of Kapilavastu, India. Buddhism teaches its followers to perform good and wholesome actions and to purify and train the mind to practice for the end of suffering of cyclic existence. After originating in India, Buddhism spread throughout the central Asia, Sri Lanka, Tibet, Southeast and East Asian countries.

Lord Buddha wondered all over India and outside India to spread his philosophy and among all those  places Buddhist legacy of Kalinga has also get acclamation due to its spreading Lord Buddha's values by his followers in his absence. Lord Buddha had never landed in Odisha but his teachings are very well followed and spread by his followers. Kuruma

Kuruma, one of the village, near Konark, is a Buddhist site that according to famous Chinese traveler, Huen Tsang's described Buddhist stupa was existed. During excavation the ancient Buddhist image in Bhumisparasa mudra along with image of Haruka was explored.

Balasore

The places like Solampur, Khadipada and Soro in Balasore are becoming prominent Buddhist attractions, where you can find number of unearthed images of Lord Buddha.

Large numbers of bronze statues of Buddhist Pantheon, believed to be connected with the Vajrayana cult of Buddhism are found in Banpur site of Buddhism in Odisha.

Biswanath Hill

After Dhauli, Jauguda is the second place where you can find Ashokan rock edict that inspired by Kalinga Buddhism.

Sambalpur

Sambalpur district of Odisha includes the places like Gandhamardan hill and Ganjiapali, which are believed to be of a monastery called Parimalagiri, which had been mentioned by Huen Tsang in Tibetan records.

The main attractions of Buddhism in Odisha can be seen in Buddhist Circuit in Jajpur district, Odisha. All the Buddhist places of this district are named as the Buddhist circuit of Odisha. The prominent places are Lalitgiri, Udayagiri, Ratnagiri and Pushpagiri. All the places hold a number of stupas and monasteries, votive stupas, sculptures along with many more valuable remains. Udayagiri remains are included within Madhavapura Mahavihara attractions. In Pushpagiri you can find the remains of the monastery which was visited by the greatest traveler Xuan Tsang is believed to be a university of Buddhist period.
