A girl with schizophrenia is trapped in a hospital tormented by shadows

Unhinged 
Cast

 Psycho- Female aged 16- 22 

Doctor- Male aged 18-26 

Mom- Female aged 40- 56 

Dad- Male aged 40-56

 Shadow’s 3 or more- Any gender- dancer/ mover

 Scene 1 �" Forest 

Psycho enters in white hospital gown, she falls to the grounds and rocks back and forth, shadows enter from the audience

 Shadows: (in an eerie melody) La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La

 Shadows walk on to the stage and surround Psycho 

Psycho: Whats happening to me? I am lost in my own mind, I am a prisoner inside my own body, I can no longer tell the difference between reality and fantasy. Forever doomed to wander the path between insanity and sanctuary, tormented by shadows. 

Shadows: (louder) La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La 

Psycho closes her eyes and tries to walk around the shadows desperately seeking a way out, she opens her eyes and approaches a hospital oddly placed in the middle of the forest. 

Psycho: How did I get here? Could it be. No this can’t be the place! 

Shadows: (Louder) La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La 

The shadows grab Psycho and she passes out in the arms of darkness. 

Black out 

Scene 2- Hospital / A Hallucination 

Erie Music Plays as the Shadows Dance around Psycho, A dark male figure appears. The Shadows and dark figure forces psycho on to the hospital bed as she tries to escape. 

Psycho: Screams 

Black out

Scene 3- Doctors office �" Reality 

Psycho and the doctor are sitting in a doctor’s office having a therapy session 

Doctor: Hello. How are you doing today? 

Psycho: I can’t tell what’s real anymore. 

Doctor: What do you see? 

Psycho: I see a hospital in the forest, shadows and a man in black holding me back from reality 

Doctor: You are Sick I have a new form of medications for you to try. 

Psycho: Pills! I don’t need pills! I need real help from someone who understands what is going on. The Doctor leans over to Psycho and caresses her arms possessively 

Doctor: These will help you see the light 

Psycho: What about the hospital in the forest and the shadows imprisoning me? 

Doctor: It wasn’t real, this is real, I am your reality, you just need help seeing that. 

The Doctor injects her with a syringe 

Doctor: Here this will help you sleep Shadows approach from up stage 

Shadows: (in a soft creepy tone) Sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep 

Psycho falls into the Doctors Arms and the Doctor Carries Her off Stage 

Lights fade out 

Scene 4 �" Hospital / Dream like hallucination 

Erie dream like music plays shadows dance around the stage, Psycho enters and tries to find her way around. The Doctor enters and Psycho runs to him but the doctor pulls out the syringe and the bottle of pills. 

Doctor: You are sick time for your medications 

Psycho: Its you, you are doing this to me! 

Half the shadows: You are sick, you are sick, you are sick 

Other half of the shadows: (At the same time) It’s You, It’s You, it’s you. 

Scene 5- Hospital Visitor Room 

Psycho is sitting at a table, Mom and Father enter and sit at the table across from her 

Psycho: Can I come home now? 

Father: Soon honey, the doctor says you are not well enough yet, but you will get better in time. 

Psycho: I am not sick, in my dream I saw the doctor, he is making me sick! Putting a form of poison in the medication, sedating me to keep me weak

Mom: Sweetie the doctor is trying to help you, he told us you are one of his favorite patients. 

Psycho: and that doesn’t seem weird to you? I feel worse when he gives me the medications, when he drugs me I have the hardest time telling the difference between what’s real and fantasy! 

Doctor enters 

Doctor: It’s time for your parents to leave and for you to take your medications. 

Psycho: but they just got here! 

Doctor: you need your rest now. 

Psycho: Mom! Dad! Don’t let him do this to me! Its poisoned he’s making me weak so I can’t leave! 

Doctor: enough of that it’s time for your nap. 

Psycho: Mom! 

Dad: Now get some sleep 

The Mom and father exit and the doctor injects psycho with sedatives 

Psycho: please no 

Lights out

 Scene 6- Psycho’s Hospital Room/ Unknown Reality 

Psycho is sitting on her bed rocking back and forth shadows crawling around her 

Shadows: ( in erie melody) La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la  

Psycho:( repeating shadows) La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la 

Shadows:( repeating psycho) La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la 

Psycho: Stop it! Stop it please! This must end! 

Shadows: use the gun, use the gun, use the gun, use the gun 

Psycho: which gun? where is the gun? Shadows: In the security office 

Psycho: The office, I must get the gun from the security office. 

Psycho gets off the bed and leaves the room in a dream like daze 

Lights out 

Scene 7-- The Forest/ Unknown Reality

Psycho is walking around the forest holding a gun, confused about where she is. 

Psycho: Why am I back in the forest? How did I get here? 

Shadows: Kill him, kill him, kill him, kill him 

Psycho: Kill him how, I’m lost in the forest, no one in their right mind would be out here! How do I find him? 

Doctor: I am right here. 

Psycho: you… Psycho points the gun at the doctor 

Psycho: you did this to me.

 Shadows: Do it Do it (increasing volume) Do it do it. 

Psycho: Why are you doing this to me? 

Shadows: kill him, Kill him 

Doctor: Calm down you don’t understand 

Shadows: (Louder) Kill him, Kill Him, Kill him 

Psycho: Stop it! Make the whispering stop, make the shadows go away 

Doctor: This is real there are no shadows to hurt you here.

Shadows: (louder) Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill 

Doctor: don’t do this you need rest, come with me 

Psycho fires the gun and the doctor falls 

Lights out 

End
