i once had a friend his name was alex.he was reading this science fiction thing i had called the wanderer.Now science is not my strong point but he told me to change things in the story otherwise he wasn't reading it anymore.He said change it and i'll keep reading it i promise.i change it around he still decides to stop reading it.doesn't even keep his promise.my vampire story is growing strong.charthers flowing things really good.he says have your vampires get your blood from a butchers shop have them start acting like humans which is just stupid.

His suggestions made no sense at all and when i didnt take the suggestions he said horrible stuff about my story that it was 2 dimensional i said if you don't like it don't read but im not changing the format of my story to suit those stupid suggestions.he didn't know what to say to that.im an expert in vampire stories and even if i wasn't it's my story to do with as i wish

I think that it is okay to have instructive criticism and some help, but when they want you to change the whole thing around then they can just go hide in a ditch. If he didn't even keep his promise he isn't a true friend. There are times where my friends will ask me what do you think, and if I don't like it I will be honest. I will say well I liked this about your story, but I think it could be stronger in this area and this is why.... I think it is better to help strengthen the weak points in a positive way, other than to just trash someone. xo Winter

That is not helpful, it is trying to take charge. Real help doesn't get mad if you don't change something. Real help doesn't attack but makes suggestion on how to help a story and leaves it to the writer to decide. Real help doesn't get angry if you don't change something. and lastly, real help doesn't try to make you feel bad but strives to make what you write better by helping and not trying to take control.

Some degree of criticism can be instrumental in writing, but if he is not going to read it because his own ideas are not in it, may I politely suggest he write his own story and leave you to the creative devices in yours.

sometimes what people say about your writing is very helpful, you learn to sharpen your edges and get to know your writing from the other side. But don't always let the negative discourage you nor the praises get your head in the clouds, just try to take a balance. Cause in the end, too many changes can make you lose who you really are and what you want to present. So, no matter what, always be you.

The thoughts in the article are correct. I look not to give suggestions on plot or story, but on structure and grammar etc., and these things can be helped tremendously with simple word processing tools. It is difficult to critique without examining these structural problems.

When I seek criticism for my own writing I turn to people I don't know rather than my own friends or family. The reason for this is so that a stranger can be blunt but not demanding. There are other community sites out there set up just for criticism and reviews. I suggest going there from know on. And remember that not everyone will be into your particular writing genre.
