Fields of Gold - Poem #78

Fields of Gold - Poem #78

A Poem by toritto

The world changed
not one whit
the day she left me
all alone.

The sun still rose
the birds still sang
the radio in the car
still played.

Boys still ogled
girls still giggled
lovers still walked hand in hand.
Sting still led her favorite band.

I surely thought
the world would end
the spinning stop, the rapture come
but it did not.

‘Twas only little things I noticed
missing from the world, now gone
her gentle kiss upon my lips
her smile as she climbed up the stairs.

Gone her boundless faith in me
that made me feel
when she was near so much more
than what I was.

I never wrote when she was here
now it’s how I spend my days
my simple words no substitute
for her sweet whispers in my ear.

Nothing in the world has changed
spring and summers come and go;
nothing’s changed that one can see
the only thing that’s changed is me.
