USA! USA! USA! - Poem #56

USA! USA! USA! - Poem #56

A Poem by toritto

Under the school desk, knees together
waiting for the bomb to fall
while picking at the Bazooka gum
stuck there since last semester

There was fear in 1950
but nothing happened; no tanks appeared
no men with machine guns came
knocking at the door

but I’m sure they will come some day
when I’m alone and naked
in the shower;
come to take my guns

Is the big one coming?
After all, I’m only 70 miles from Disney World;
what better place to target
‘cept maybe the Federal Reserve?

What about those illegals walking in the street?
Next they will be coming for my bitcoin
confiscating my computer
reading my hard drive

snapping my picture at Walmart
feeling me up at the airport
checking on my library books
taking my collection of rocks from Hawaii

But I really worry
that lightning will short out my new T.V.
and my flowers won’t grow
for lack of rain

and those damn talking heads who just won’t stop,
showing yet another image of a mother
holding the body of her child
sitting in some street where I have never been.

.
