Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Are You Afraid of the Dark?

A Poem by topsyturvy

The crushing blow of despair

As it slowly eats you from inside

Devastating cruelty

From the beast that is within

Your former self blown to tiny smithereens

Encasing you as it unfurls

And deals with demons inside.

You breathe the moonlit night

Starless dreams abide

By the laws you seek to find

He crushes your divine.

Freedom is it you seek?

While you’re thrashing in defeat?

The monsters kept at bay

From deep within your head

It numbs away the pain.

This poem portrays a dark aura coming from wthin ones mind. It must truly be painful to have such feelings, such thoughts inside ones mind. Though, it was well understood in the last stanza how you portrayed that these feelings of defeat can be an opening to freedom. Also, your choice of words created this well versed poem. Great job at that. Wonderful piece.

I like the sense of internalised drama. My fave line is 'Starless dreams abide.'

Its like a Pyrrhic Victory...you win with major losses...a really deep and thought provoking poem, Tops. Freedom is what we all seek, yet it comes in defeats, at times.

Kamusta kina? Okay ka? Basta, okay ka, okay pa rin ako. :)
