Numb

Numb

A Poem by topsyturvy

moonlight shines across her pale, ashen face.

she strums on those strings as though her very life...

depended on it.

half-lidded eyes she stares into the crowd.

she spots him almost instantly

with that gleam in his eye...

she drops her guard.

stares blindly ahead

with her mouth agape..

people rush forward.. towards her

as though she would break.

she falls right on ahead

but...

twas all in her head.

the sudden rush of emotions flood her face.

the crowd hushes down a bit,

stops, and then stares.

she stops playing.

her heart is racing.

she flicks her forefinger straight at him.

she screams a silent scream

piercing right through to him.

he shudders and walks away.

she stares blankly ahead.

there is no one there.

where has my life gone wrong?

how long has this been going on?

she wakes from her deep slumber

heart be still.

she weeps and weeps.

though there are no more tears..

This is like a micro story.. but I like micro stories as poems.. and you did a great job.. it is interesting.. the moment of realizion.. the urgency.. well done

That was truly amazing! Your ability to create such an evocative and heart-wrenching scene really blew me away! When I first started reading this piece, I felt as if I knew where the poem was going to go. However, the ending certainly did add a twist to the story, which I wasn't expecting at all! I really did like the way you ended this piece though. I liked the mystery and sadness behind this poem, and also the kind of bitter-sweet emotions of the girl which changed as the poem progressed.
Very nice work! Well written.
