Butterflies They ShoutedA Story by TopHatGirlThump. Thump.
Butterflies they told me. I denied it.
Butterflies they shouted. I told them no. No. I am not butterflies, I screamed. I tugged at my hair, tears staining the dreads. They repeat it. Butterflies. Butterflies. Butterflies. Somehow, deep inside, my heart pounded in agreement. Thump. Thump. An echo throughout my ears. I still had to fight though. I could not keep the butterflies away forever. Eventually my need for murder grew. I fulfilled it with killing. I killed my best friend. She didn't scream. The knife slipped in like a river off of a cliff. I never wanted to kill her. I never wanted to kill her. Butterflies made me. That's when I knew. Butterflies. It was a whisper, a knowing. Locked myself away. My best friend couldn't stay dead forever. She came to me. Told me what I already knew. "Butterflies." But there was something else that escaped her shivering, dead lips. "I have a cure." I inquired about what a cure for butterflies is. "Take your life." They begged me not to. "We can help you!" They lied. I knew I could not stay, with my butterflies. I left that retched place. That land of the living. But I have learned one thing when I left this land of the living. Butterflies, is inside you. © 2010 TopHatGirlAuthor's Note
