Open Up

Dealing with regular drama with no actual drama.

I take a deep breath, and knock on the apartment door.

"What?"
"Gabe, open up."
"Go away."
"Gabe, open the hell up."
The door unlocks. Doesn't open. I push the door open, wading through bottles of beer and t***y magazines.
"What's the matter with you?" I ask.
"Sick."
"Bullshit."
"Depression?"
"Maybe."
"Should I care?"
"F**k off, Rach."
"Fine."
I leave.
I drive.

Justin's apartment. Shittier than Gabe's. S****y neighborhood. Perfect for a white girl like me.
Door's already unlocked.
He's in his bedroom, sleeping like he got in at midnight, drunk and stupid.
I'm probably dead on.
"Wake up, Justin."
"Fhgpph uf," he says, mumbling into his pillow.
"What?"
"I said, f**k off."
"Heard it before."
"You ever listen?"
"No. Gabe's depressed."
"Probably because we fucked last night."
"Liar."
"No, I'm dead serious." He sits up an inch, and I can see his hangover face.
"Drunk sex?"
"That's the thing. It wasn't."
"Wasn't?"
"Get your ears checked. We fucked. It was alright. Then we drank ourselves stupid."
"You gay?"
"No."
"Gabe?"
"Dunno."
"Why'd you f**k?"
"Dunno. Bored."
"You better deal with Gabe."
"Why is it my duty?"
"'Cuz you fucked him, dumbass."
"Shut up, Rachel."
"Shut up, f*g."
"You a homophobe?"
"Not really."
"Then shut the hell up."
"Well, make sure he doesn't jump off some bridge because of this."
"F**k off."
I leave.

"Open the f**k up, Gabe."
"Why the hell should I, Justin?"
"Cuz I wanna talk."
"More like you wanna f**k me."
"Tomato, tamato. Open up."
Door opens.
"What?"
"I wanna talk."
"No s**t, sherlock. Talk."
"About last night..."
"Okay. Stop there."
"Why?"
"Just cuz."
"Okay."
"Dude..."
"Yeah?"
"I'm gay."
"I know."
"Are you?"
Thinking.
"You know what dude?"
"What?"
"I think I just f**k whatever moves."

....
.....
Laughter.

"Justin, just get me a goddamn beer."

Yikes......... well....... it's a story, it's tightly written, um....... one question...why?

These little things just crop up and ya gotta write them. Even the writer doesn't have to know why, maybe it's blocking something else to write and needs to be written so the next thing can be written.

As for the dialogue, and me being an old guy, I've often wondered what 144 character texting was going to do to the vocabulary and speech patterns of the future generations..... thanks for clearing that up....... lol.

oh, and make sure you stretch in both ways when working your writing chops. Not every message is angst-y. Write everything, successful or not.

Wasn't sure where you were going with this at first, but the dialogue is sharp and the flow is good. And the ending is completely hilarious which makes it all worth it.
