Prologue

        In third grade, Tess was playing on the playground when she overheard some bullies being mean to a boy her age. Tess ran over and pushed one of the bullies to the ground, making him bleed. The others ran away. Tess stood over the boy and offered an arm to help him up.

       "You okay?" she asked as he picked himself up. He nodded.

       "Thank you." he said.

       "I don't like bullies." Tess simply said. "What's your name?" she asked.

       "Roman." 

          "I'm Tess." she said. Roman smiled.

          "You wanna go play on the swing sets?" she asked. Roman nodded, and they ran off together.

           Tess and Roman have been friends ever since.

        When Tess got her first F in fourth grade, Roman took her out to icecream, and they giggled over silly insults to teachers.

        When Roman's father died in 6th grade, Tess played her violin for him at the creek after the funeral.

        When Tess's first boyfriend broke up with her in 8th grade, Roman said that he was an a*s and let her cry on his sholder.

         When Roman's mom kicked him out of the house because he was caught smoking in 11th grade,(shes extremely religous) Tess took him into her home until he got his own apartment.

         They always helped eachother out.

 

          So when Roman called her at two in the morning, saying he just discovered something weird, swearing he wasn't high, Tess willingly came over.
