Hunger

Hunger

A Poem by Olivia H.

There are only crumbs now.
We ate the last bit of bread long ago,
And now we forage the forests
Looking for something
Anything
That will satisfy our aching hunger.
My stomach screams for mercy,
And all between the trees
Is empty.
I could spend all day
Looking for a mysterious source
That will aide this emptiness,
But all I find
Is brown leaves covering the ground.
I pray to God
That tomorrow, or the next day
I'll find something to feed off,
Like a black hole eating a star.
But for now,
My heart remains starving
My stomach remains empty
And the world remains colourless.
