Rain

Rain

A Poem by Tony
"

I asked my niece for a word that meant something to her. She gave me the word rain. I gave her this a few minutes later.

"

RAIN

i pray for rain

rain to wash away the anger

to wash away the pain

drops of salvation on my face washing clean my soul.

i pray for rain

rain to cool my burning heart

to extinguish life’s fires

i pray for rain

rain to flood the streets of my mind

carrying away the filth and stains of days past

i pray for rain

rain to fill my empty cup

to revitalize the wastelands of my mind

I see storm clouds on the horizon; a welcome site to dry eyes. I watch the masses seek shelter. Prayers answered, I walk towards the horizon.

Short and powerful. I love the idea of giving rain - an element of nature - the ability to cleanse the body and mind of its troubles (I believe Nature in general has this power - having lived in a city all my life, I run to countrysides with scenic views to find the peace and quiet not found in cities). I love the last line of the poem - "Prayers answered, I walk towards the horizon" - the speaker embraces the rain and finds the peace he was searching for. Brilliant work overall.
