Mother

Mother

A Poem by Marie Cortez

She delivered me out of darkness and into Aurora
This Beacon of Life kissed my carnal shell to bless
I was held closely to her bosom
As she bequeathed her nourishment
My Usher to this journey was imparting strength

Light shone gently on her face and revealed grace
My loud cry was the earthquake that interchanged her position
Jovial carefree living gave way to accountability
She embraced her transformation
As if it were a divine undertaking

Much love and much compassion, Oh Beacon of Life!
They both flow from the flower beds of your nature
How you have cultivated them!
What genius lies within the soil
That has perfected their development
