Chapter One

Chapter One

A Chapter by Toni-Lynn Benoit
"

Tanya and Lucas reunite and the chemistry is undeniable, but will they confess their feelings for each other or keep acting like their is nothing there?

"

Tanya and Lucas looked at each other and could not find the words to say. Neither one knew what the other was thinking, but both were hoping that they were thinking the same thing.

“Tanya…wow…it is so great to see you.” Lucas raked a hand through his hair trying not to appear as awkward as he was feeling. Tanya fiddled with her necklace and looked him in the eye.

“I could say the exact same thing. I missed you when " I mean we all missed you guys when you left.” Tanya touched her cheeks and felt the blush rise to the surface of her skin. Lucas looked at her and a small smile spread across his face. He had always thought she was beautiful, but there was something different about her. She radiated with beauty and confidence.

“We missed you guys as well. Hey do you want to maybe take a walk before dinner?” Tanya could not believe what was going on. Never had Lucas asked her to do anything alone. She was not sure how to react because her heart was beating a hundred miles a minute.

“Umm, sure sounds good.” Tanya went to grab her coat on the coat rack, but Lucas grabbed it first.

“Allow me.” He held out the jacket so she could put it on. When he put it on her, his hands stayed on her shoulders a little longer than normal. He loved the feeling of her being close to him and Tanya definitely felt the same, but neither told the other how they felt for fear of rejection.

They walked out the door and started to walk down the trail near Lucas’ house. “So, tell me how things have been for you here?” said Tanya looking down at the ground afraid to look Lucas in the eyes. Lucas briefly looked at her and could not help but laugh at her behavior. He had remembered her usual confidence around guys, never showing her nerves. Tanya could not believe how she was acting. The effect he had on her was strange and refreshing.

“Things have been okay,” Lucas said with a laugh. “I’ve been working most of the time and sometimes I hang out with friends, but mostly work.” He tried to hide his disappointment with his current situation. He was working at a place he did not enjoy, but did it because it was hard to find a job. “How have you been? I’m sure making this move has been tough on you.” Lucas moved closer to Tanya and made a motion to put his arm around her waist, but he moved away quickly before Tanya noticed.

Tanya was surprised at the removal of some distance between them. She could almost feel the heat of his skin on hers. “It actually hasn’t been too major.” She wrapped her arms around herself feeling suddenly cold and down from old memories coming back. “I have actually been pretty lonely.”

Lucas was surprised to hear this. Tanya had always been a social butterfly, or at least appeared to be. “Why is that? What happened to all your friends?”

Tanya looked down feeling ashamed. “Guess they were never really friends. It doesn’t bother me…not that much anyway.” Tanya felt a chill go through her spine. She shook in response and Lucas immediately responded by taking off his jacket and placing it on Tanya’s shoulders. “There, that should keep you warm.” He wished that he could pull her to him and keep her warm himself, but he did not want to overstep his boundaries.

“Thanks, Lucas. I really need to get a good coat or something like this. My flimsy little jacket doesn’t do much.” Tanya slightly laughed at the absurdity of a thin jacket keeping her warm.

Lucas loved to hear her laugh and see her smile. He would do anything to make her smile. “How about you keep mine? I have other jackets at home.” Tanya felt warm once inside his jacket. It was as close to being in Lucas’ arms as she was going to get.

“Lucas, you don’t have to.” She made a motion to take it off, but Lucas placed his hands on her shoulders.

“Please, keep it. I want you to have it. I can’t have a beautiful girl like you shivering in the cold.” He ran his hands down her arms and when he reached her hands he entwined them with his. He wrapped his arms around her. They had never been this close and it was a new and exciting feeling.

Tanya pulled away from Lucas and walked away. It scared her to be so close to him. Lucas was afraid he had done something to upset her. “I’m sorry. I just couldn’t help myself…”

“You really think I’m beautiful?” Tanya interrupted. She shyly turned around refusing to look him in the eye. Lucas slightly laughed and walked toward her lifting her face to meet his gaze.

“I think you are gorgeous. Always have.” Lucas flashed a smile while stroking her cheek. “Man, I have wanted to say that for the longest time.” Tanya noticed his gaze move down to her lips and instantaneously knew what he was thinking. She then felt a pang of guilt knowing there was something she could never give him, her virtue. She started to cry at the sheer memory of it all.

“Hey, what’s wrong? Was it something I said?” Tanya collapsed on the bench behind her and began sobbing uncontrollably. Lucas sat next to her and tried to comfort her. “Tanya, talk to me.”

Tanya ceased her crying enough to talk. “You have no idea how long I have wanted to hear you say those words.” Lucas was confused.

“So then why are you crying?” Taya did not want to tell him the truth because she was sure that he would not want her anymore, but she knew she had to.

“Because I can’t give you what you deserve…” Lucas tried to keep from laughing because he knew she was very emotional, but he did not know where this was coming from.

“Tanya, I don’t under- “

“I’m not a virgin…” That was all she said and all she needed to say. The truth was out and there was no turning back now. She moved away from Lucas feeling ashamed to not have her virtue intact.

Lucas was a little shocked at the news. He had always viewed Tanya as a pretty strong Christian, but this did not change the way he felt about her. He got down in front of her and met her gaze once more. “Tanya, that doesn’t change how I see or change the fact that I want you.”

Tanya would not look at him. She felt so ashamed for not waiting until marriage. It was a moment of weakness and she had given in. “I have nothing to give you…my first kiss, my first time…I gave it away…” Lucas knew that none of that mattered to him because he knew he had one thing that no one had ever taken away from him.

“Tanya, listen to me. I have always known that you had feeling for me and known for some time that you are in love with me.” Tanya tried to deny it, but Lucas knew the truth. “The thing is, I have always had feelings for you, but I just didn’t know what to do about it. And now I do. I want you more than anything.”

They looked each other in the eye and felt all the feelings they had for each other flow inside of them. Lucas knew that he wanted her and would do anything to make her happy. “Besides, there is one thing I’m sure you haven’t given to anyone else.”

“I’m not sure what you mean.” Lucas stood up and pulled her up from the bench to him. He held her close to him and brushed her hair behind her ear.

“The most important thing is you heart and I’m pretty sure I’ve had that all this time.” Tanya started blushing at his words. Then the next thing she knew Lucas’ lips were on hers and he was kissing her and she was kissing him back.

The kiss was full of passion and love. It felt the way a first kiss should feel and it made Tanya forget about all the other kisses she had ever had. None would ever compare to this.

They broke away from the kiss and were taken back. They had grown up together and were now adults with passions and desires. “Wow! Tanya that was…”

“Amazing, truly amazing,” Tanya quickly chimed in all smiles.

“How does that compare to any other guy?” Lucas smirked at Tanya because he knew what the answer was. “Was it everything you’d ever hoped for?”

Tanya had dreamed of this moment for as long as she could remember. She had longed to feel his lips on hers for the longest time, and now she had. “It was everything and more. It was as if I had my first kiss all over again with the man it always should have been with.” They embraced each other, afraid to let go.

right here: you could put your description:
“Tanya…wow…it is so great to see you.” Lucas raked a hand through his brackish blonde hair, and shifted the weight of his lanky 5'*8' frame from one foot to the other in an effort to conceal the awkwardness he felt Tanya fiddled with her necklace and looked him in the eye.
When he puts the jacket on her shoulders - you could work in her hair color or her size, her curvy shape at that spot. My best advice is "Show" don't "tell" -
there is tension here because she is no longer a virgin. Are you saving this for later in the story - why is this so crushing for her? Im Christian so I get it - will this be a Christian story or do you want to reach a non Christian audience. If you want the latter - you might consider working in a flashback that shows how she lost her virginity - bring the reader into the pain, frustration, embarrassment - perhaps she feels she let God down - there are all kinds of approaches.
If you have the start of a story and you have the heart to write it - then do that. you can always perfect the thing as you go. The first step is getting it out on paper. The second is committing to your craft, and if you are here on WC - I would assume you are seeking to do just that.
Feel free to send more RR's my way. I'm happy to offer suggestions - but always, it is YOUR story - and never let anyone tell you DON'T write it.
I think you have a solid idea here - so many of us go through relationship issues like this. I say keep writing.
