Head of Hay

Head of Hay

A Poem by Thomas J Peltier

I've been hanging here for years because even crows have fears,
And I'm the scariest is what they say.
But no one realizes pain because apparently I have no brain.
Since my head is full of hay,
And my heart is full of hay,
I'm here to stay

My eyes water all the time, like the heaviest clouds in the sky,
But it's soaked up by the hay.
Oh, the sun pains my flakey skin. I pray for rain.
But it never comes today,
Relief will never come today,
And I'm here to stay.

I'm just posted on this stick like a ripe jesus that was never picked
And left there to decay.
I would leave but they gave me no feet
So I cannot walk away.
I cannot walk away.

I'm here to stay.
