The Opposite of Happiness

The Opposite of Happiness

A Poem by Nisreen

Somewhere down the line
Humanity got confused

We seek peace through war
Freedom in substance abuse

A voice in the most silent places
Democracy in utter hypocrisy

We take trips to the moon
Forget the things we should remember

Hurt those that matter
Idolizing the meaningless

We fix things with a quick fix
Healing the healthy

Inject Botox in our hair
Fortifying our cereal with Calcium

Reach for the unreachable
Tossing out the ones within reach

Read books that are unwritten
Write the things that never matter

We trump the cards
Lead the free ones

Buy the things we could never own
Own the unsaleable

Strike by emptiness
In a world that is whole

The opposite of everything

An awesome piece. Eloquent in it's description of our self-defeating world.
I feel really quite inspired, thank you.

Thank you Greg
A profound write, so true of today's human nature.Society is in decay ruined by the last generation to an extent but today's generation equally bad, lost in technology dependence, drugs hence they have no true ties or values!

I think this is pure perfection. I couldn't agree more o
If I'd written it myself. I love the similarities you piece together through opposites. Each line is quote worthy. I applaud you!

well Riverside, you have summed uo the daftness of humans very well indeed! we are constantly coveting the next thing while totally neglecing the laast so needed 'thing'..putting a plaster over gaping wounds to try and disguise just how bad we are ..well not so much as a people but those at the top that decide they know exactly what we need and convince us to do it or those that rebel against this idealist behaviour and then are named the the ''badness'' in society for having their own minds.. as a people in whole we simply go around and around in circles, never truely learning from past mistakes, just believing we are far to clever to ever get caught like the last lot did...your poem is not only correct but wonderfully put, full marks from me...apologies for rambling so much but this subject has been on my mind a bit recently haha

this is my favorite from you...we do seem to be a race that thrives on contradictions...

and we do it so well...but somehow survive...i am not sure how well, but we do survive...

really insightful write...so cohesive...

Some people won't speak the truth, some people whisper the truth with frailty, and some people...well, they can't help themselves, given a strong voice to sing loudly. This is not something that has never been said, but, it's never been said like you say it. Uniquely resounding!

Thank you Spencer
At least in this country, we've near-completed our own comfortable illusion of a world, and picture-framed it with the audacity that we are rulers of the universe. So yeah, I agree.

Extremely courageous piece. Thanks for this appreciated share.
