![]() The GameA Chapter by unrealisticthinking![]() The battle of wits between servent and master reaches new levels, when Robert sees a more human side of Lord Brendan.![]() It was bizarre. There he stood, his eyes fixed on the Lord Brendan, unable to form a coherent thought. The man he both hated and feared; the man, who spoke in condescending, scolding tones, was laughing. Robert hesitated, watching with fascination as the Lord turned to look at him, a look of panic crossing his features. It was the first time he had seen the Lord looking remotely scared. He realised that somehow, the Lord had dropped his facade for a few moments, and had been discovered. Their eyes met. He could see the fire in the Lord’s eyes, and he knew, that for the first time, he returned the glare with just as much ferocity. There was silence, a subtle understanding passing between them. They were alone, the world fading into nonexistence. The game was not over. Oh no, the game was just beginning. The Lord broke the gaze, distracted by the presence of his female company. The spell was broken. But the message remained. Robert felt his lips tug upwards into a malicious grin. He did not have the upper hand yet, but he was getting close, and this event proved that he had a fighting chance. The Lord was human. The Lord had weaknesses. He turned his back on the scene. This round was over; he had won. He would be punished for his victory, but what did it matter? It changed nothing. The course of action was clearer now. He knew the women. She was Theodore; a noble women who had lived in the kingdom since birth. It seemed that the Lord had taken an interest in her. That made her a potential player in this little game of hers. A pawn to be used. Ideas were forming in his head, the majority of them still hidden from his conscious mind, but he knew they were there. He could mould them into a plan during his punishment. He would have plenty of time, and it would be a good distraction. He pretended he didn’t notice the way his grin faltered, and his jaw tightened.
