Return to Fold and further progress with Thomas and Orig

CHAPTER 4: Lore’s return

 

The sound of a singing woke Thomas up, he was lying in what looked like a field of flowers, as he looked at the sky, he saw the familiar face of Orig above him, he was apparently lying on her lap.

“Are you O.K?” she asked.

“Where are we?” asked Thomas starting to come to his senses.

“I...managed to transport us away two seconds before the blast” said Orig embarrassed “But it cost me quite a bit of energy and I didn’t have enough to teleport Lance as well, also...” Thomas sat up and realised she was naked.

“What happened to your clothes?” asked Thomas, turning the other way.

“My teleportation power costs me my energy and I...kind of...cannot transport my clothes” said Orig still embarrassed. Thomas helped her up, took off his fleece and wrapped it over her body, she held it tightly in delight.

“So where are we?” he asked.

“I had to send us to a random location” said Orig “So I have no idea where we are”?

“It looks...peaceful” said Thomas as he gazed at the flowers surrounding them. He felt Orig hold his hand gently, that’s when he realised she was breathing heavily, then she fell on her knees.

“Orig!” said Thomas hoping nothing was serious “What’s wrong”?

“I’m...cold” said Orig weakly, Thomas felt her forehead and sure enough she had a fever, the teleportation must have cost her more than just her energy and clothes, it may have caused the fever as well. Thomas wrapped his arms around her tightly and tried his best to warm her up, she held him back and they stayed like that for who knows how long.

 

It seemed like hours had passed, but after a long wait, Orig was feeling better, Thomas kissed her forehead and good news, the fever was gone. After a small time, they got up and looked around, there was nothing but flowers everywhere, all of them daisies. They simply walked straight ahead with no idea where they were going.

Thomas checked his watch after a while, it read eight o’clock in the evening, but it was still light in the sky, when he looked above, he saw the sky had five suns in a large circular formation, which meant they were probably on a different planet.

“Do you know of any planets with suns like that?” he asked pointing at them.

“No way” said Orig who seemed amazed “This is Field of Love on Fold”.

“We’re on Fold?” asked Thomas and then remembered something “You once mentioned you have folding powers, what is that”?

“Everything on Fold can in fact be folded up” said Orig picking a flower, she bent each petal upwards and they stayed in place, slightly wobbly, like paper.

“So is everything made out of paper?” asked Thomas.

“That’s right” said Orig “The only things not paper are us Foldians”.

“And what is this Field of Love?” asked Thomas.

“This place is where lovers come to confess to each other” said Orig “They say if you confess here, you’ll never get separated” she paused and then looked at him “Thomas...I love you”.

“Me too, Orig” said Thomas realising she was hoping the legend was real. They held hands and walked further.

 

About half an hour later, they reached the end of the field and arrived at what Orig said was Bending City, home to Orig and her royal family, so it was where Thomas confronted the king...or Lore as it were.

“What should we do?” asked Orig.

“I think we should inform your father that Lore is alive” said Thomas.

“Good plan” said Orig and they went straight for the palace.

 

Walking through the corridor to the throne room, Thomas wondered if staying with Orig was a good idea, even though he loved her, would living with an alien be a good idea. He decided to think on it.

“Orig!” yelled a voice, it was Gam and I, Gam ran up and hugged her sister, I followed shortly.

“What are you doing here?” asked I.

“We need to see the king” said Thomas coming to them.

“You’re Orig boyfriend, right?” asked Gam.

“Yes” said Thomas as Orig held his arm in affection “We need to speak to the king about a problem on Earth”. The sisters opened the door to the throne room and inside was the king on his throne, this time the real king, he welcomed his daughter and Thomas with open arms.

“My dear daughter” he said joyfully “And Thomas, what brings you here”?

“We have a situation” said Thomas and explained about Lore’s attack on Earth. The king realised this was a situation he couldn’t ignore, he pressed a button on his throne and a giant monitor came out of the ceiling. It showed Earth, however, it was completely black, and zoomed images made them realise the landscape was ruined, people were acting strange being like emotionless puppets, just wandering with no goals.

“Lore must be taking people’s dreams and desires” said Thomas.

“How can we stop him?” asked Orig.

Thomas then realised he had a problem “I’m worried about Matthew and Asa, plus my family, I think we’d better save them first”.

“I think that’s wise” said the king “I’m well aware of your friends and family, they should be your first priority” he turned to Gam and I “My daughters, please, go with them”.

“Of course” said Gam.

“With pleasure” said I. Both of them seemed more than happy to accompany their sister and brother-in-law, Thomas could see their excitement.

“By the way” said the king “Where’s Lance”?

“We don’t know” said Orig sadly “I managed to teleport Thomas safely, but I couldn’t teleport Lance”.

“He’s another one to save” said Thomas “Your highness, can you transport us all to Earth”?

“That’ll be no problem” said the king “But, would you mind spending the night here in the castle? Relax for a while and be fully rested for tomorrow”.

“Good idea” said Thomas “We need to be at full strength to confront Lore”.

“You can share Orig’s room” said the king and Orig excitingly held Thomas’ arm, she seemed to love Thomas a lot, even Gam and I seemed envious.

 

That night, Thomas was staring out of the balcony in Orig’s room, it seemed time on the planet was five times slower than on Earth, one minute on Earth was sixty seconds, whereas here it was three hundred seconds, this was due to the five suns that went down one by one. Orig came to Thomas’ side.

“What’s wrong?” she asked.

“I’m...worried” said Thomas being honest.

“About your friends and family?” asked Orig.

“Not just that” he turned to her “Orig, do you truly love me”?

“What are you saying?” asked Orig surprised “I love you more than anything in life”.

“I see” said Thomas who seemed to be in doubt.

“You...don’t believe me?” asked Orig sadly.

“It’s just...” said Thomas “...I’ve never had a girl love me this much, let alone an alien, it’s kind of unbelievable”.

Orig rested her head on his shoulder and said “I’ll never abandon you...my love”.

“Thanks” said Thomas, they both got into bed and got a goodnight’s sleep for the battle tomorrow.

Meanwhile, next door, Gam and I were talking about Thomas and Orig,

“He does seem friendly” said Gam “I just can’t believe he’s Saviour Union’s leader”.

“You mean the group that fights the dark forces?” asked I.

“Yes” said Gam “I heard their leader was well respected in the group, no one defied him since they admired him so much, I can see why”.

“I wish I had a nice boyfriend like him” said I.

“Same here” said Gam, they both fell asleep and dreamt of having Thomas as their boyfriend.

 

The next day, Thomas and the girls went to the king,

“Are you all ready?” asked the king.

“We are” said Thomas and all the girls nodded.

“Then be safe” said the king, he held out his hands and the four of them vanished “Come back safely, by daughters and son-in-law”.
