Magna Cum Laude

Magna Cum Laude

A Poem by Tom Q

She was so smart and did the right thing

Always

She went to school forever or so it seemed.

How many hours were lived in libraries and basking in the glow of computer light.

A Righteous attitude toward the uneducated was massaged by advisors and cohorts

Accolades from her family flowed freely she was the toast of thanksgiving.

Until

Her brother got promoted and bought a new car with only a GED

Questions arose about the lauded PhD.

Soon the lies started. Exaggerations of papers published and prospects

Tales of imaginary job offers at private schools.

Actually

she was a low paid adjunct with no health insurance

Who was soon unemployed thanks to budget cuts

An unemployed Doctor of philosophy

Six figure student loans never go away

Suckered

Into this life by professors grooming protégés

Cheap labor with a nice a*s to grade papers

They just keep feeding them some lies

Now

She has a job that requires little education

Her boss is a proud drop out

She lies about her degree

Though

She doesnt go home for thanksgiving

She is obese

And

Often drunk
