Pop Culture Clique

A Poem by Tom Q

The pretense of art is ever

looming in

So many souls who want to be

accepted

By the crowd that controls

opinion.

Hemmingway, Dali and Gatsby would

partake in

This timeless and businesslike

tradition.

More important than

Inspiration  is

who you know, what your art says thus

secondary.

Avant-garde an incredible

fashion is

How you look, so vitally

Important?

The most alarming

Intrusion is

the independent prose so often

rejected.

Popularity cohort  will not  define it

as art

Unborn eyes may see the rejected pieces of

today

Beholden to a new clique it no longer

Suffers

My only problem with this piece is that if you had not told me to read the underlined parts separately, I would not have known to do it.

The beauty of the underlined parts is that they rpovide a synopsis that , IMO, isa ctually more powerful in its message than the piece in its entirety.

That being said, I would suggest leaving as is, adding a line (or more) after this piece outlining how you want the reader to literally read between the lines of what you just wrote for an additional message.

Maybe then you could put the underlined lines after that, in descending order.

Option then would be to leave as is or add a resounding closing line.

Just my thoughts.
