Poetry Reading

A Poem by Tom Q
"

DO NOT LET THEM CLIP YOUR WINGS.

"

Dressed to perform

Salvation Army chic

Not wanting to conform

Struggling to be unique

My writing is lame

Scorn, mockery, so frightened

I must entertain

Be safe, read John Lydon

Lust for strangers to agree

A retreating sense of self

What have I turned out to be?

I put my gifts on a shelf

Self-homogenized oh so safe

Life ends it does not wait

"Salvation Army chic" = awesome line. (Cap Army though)

I think you could drop Stanza 2 completely and it would make for a better piece. (frighten should be frightened.) (Lydon/frighten = not a good rhyme.)

Stanza 3 "What have I turn out to be" (Should be "turned")

'Self homogenized" I LOVE THIS! How we check ourselves so we don't wreck ourselves in our own minds. How will they percieve it? Is it good enough? Am I good enough? Will I be understood? YES!!!!!

(Self-homogenized, I believe it is with a dash)

I cannot imagine myself at a poetry reading. I think I would wet my pants.
