Evil

Evil

A Poem by Tom Q

Today it was a person

Bright eyed, smile wide

Until my glance was noticed

Then suddenly a deadpan focus

Talking out loud

A bold confidence shown

Laughing, looking around

Yet no Bluetooth or phone

Nobody pays attention

Only I hesitate

The cold chill surrounds

I duck back and wait

All clear again and I sense relief

Why do I see what I don’t believe?

I have been a witness since long ago

Any semblance of reason no

Always it is sudden and stuns with a sickening force

No venue immune from its reach

It’s a moment unnaturally interrupted

Like mutilated animal on the picturesque beach

Next time it may indeed be a place

To most normal in everyway

Only my odd instinct makes perception stray.

How can this be divine? I always resist the embrace

I carry on, culling my courage

Panic has vanished I don’t need it to manage

Just someone who sees

Though possibly damned to never to know what it means
