A Poem by Beautiful Intentions

Her melodic voice lifts throughout every room

Sitting on the cold floor with her back against the wall

Wearing nothing more than a tattered football jersey

As she strums the strings of an electric guitar

Tears in her eyes, trailing down her cheeks

Singing to scattered memories

Of photographs of the one who had shaved their head

With a pained slip of fingertips captured in black and white

Then seeing them sitting near the canal front

Green hoodie, pink hair held against an endless crystalline sky

The unraveled tears spilling from adverted blue eyes

On a day they had come so close to losing the other

Seeing them snuggled into a plush disarray of pillows

In that black “tied up and twisted” tank top

Covered in white dog hair in those early morning hours

Beautiful face as natural as can be in a slight smirk of lips

Words of a soul so calmed and at the very same time

So set afire in the passionate workings of a double-edged sword

Then that first moment when she had known she was precious

With a gorgeous smile meant for no other but her

Delivered from a joyous heart in the gleaming of loving eyes

Then the day sandaled feet explored beside their sisters

Breathtaking in an elephant speckled dress and purple hair

Sitting cross-legged on a tree trunk with two hands folded

In the shape of a heart lingering just inches above their own

A photograph calling her home into awaiting arms

Always knowing deep down where it is they both belong

Two lovers who would fall asleep every night

Cuddled into the others favorites colors to just feel closer

Who hear the others name with every song ever sung

Seeing the day emotional masks had been stripped away

In a slow fading of soft purple to platinum blonde

And all the unspoken ache, the pain in those tearless eyes

Which had broken a devastated heart weeping in an “if only”

Then a silver dragonfly hanging about a slender neck

With the peeling back of curtains to gaze upon the sky

Daydreaming in the return of so many wondrous possibilities

Soon kissing a picture of them wrapped so stunningly

In a gift sending spirits soaring about puffs of winter clouds

Spellbound by the deep gazing of soulful eyes seeing

What no other on earth will ever be able to see

Lying in bed with a stuffed animal beneath their cheek

Whispering of such crushing things

A drawn heart at the tips of fingers bleeding with every touch

Days of a brilliant happiness and adorable flexed biceps

Of nail biting in the thoughts of tasting of thick lips

Then the last that she had stolen of magnificent recollections

When her cherished lover had worn those loving wings

Aglow with the most radiant of soul-shines in a smile

A tilting of a head in the tumble of soft blonde locks at cheeks

That had only made her fall so deeply in love all over again

Not needing her lover to say they agree

With the value of a single irreplaceable memory

To tell her to stop the tears from falling upon the scatter

Of a hundred photographs of what could be

As she has always known the one thing missing from each

And it’s her…

The poem told a realistic story leading to a honest ending. Photographs become imprints of life and living. I liked the use of description. You left the reader with something to think about. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Beautiful and spellbinding. I found myself entranced and greedily devouring each line. Each image beauty and sadness at the same moment. Really cool poem.

I suck at reading long poems round here, but I've read yours far more than I've any.. And this one here, I read it more than once.. It did bring back memories every time I read.. I do have lines which touched me but the last lines, they really did the job!
