Something Real

Something Real

A Poem by Beautiful Intentions

If someone were to ask during a quiet moment

What comes to mind when I envision something real

They would discover a sudden light glinting in pale eyes

As I would forever strive to say

It’s in the way a heart melts with just a single joyous smile

From loving lips that whisper of everlasting truths

Can be felt in the brilliant bounds of friendship, of companionship

Of sympathetic arms embracing even the darkest of shadows

The tender mindfulness, sweet caresses of lingering scars

It’s in the agonizing differences which bring about only tears

In the harmful arguments that seem to lead nowhere

Because the greatest of passions to be known

Is in what is wrenchingly uttered when facing the pains of the other

It’s in the desire to be known, to be seen with entirety

From charmed eyes that have journeyed beyond furthermost depths

With a fleeting glance which recognizes the intricate workings of a soul

Rather revealed in pieces or should it be seen as whole

Found in the considerate gaze that never once turns away

It’s in the ways which no other can lift spirits higher

Summoning warm sensations palpitating along feathering touches

Felt in cherishing actions delivering happiness with each skipping step

In all those unforgettable little treasures so selflessly given

It’s in the ever-flowing inspiration from a priceless and precious muse

Faintly stroking an imaginative mind as if with mystical fingertips

With the sudden brightness of colors, the vivid tastes of life

As if everything before them had only ever been monotone

It’s in the ways that they are missed throughout the days

When an adoring ear aches to be placed above a gentle heartbeat

In the helpless longing for more, so much more of them

Just another word upon their lips, another brief brushing of a cheek

It’s in the ways which no one else can fill the void within

When no other in a crowded room the beautiful face yearned to be seen

When no other connection demands to be felt profoundly deeper beneath the skin

Looking for them everywhere and locating them in everything

Because somewhere along the way one stumbled upon home

It’s in the dreams almost too big, almost too frightening to attain

In the intimate hours spent shared growing throughout the other

No longer able to imagine how life could go on without them

When so much seems so far outside of a desperate stretch

Yet the immense love that is felt urges to always keep reaching

If someone were to ask during a quiet moment

What comes to mind when I envision something real

I would tell them that I have need to look no further

Than the love that I have found with you

There are many lines in this poem which feel close to my heart and I had to think on which were my favourite.. These lines here:

"Because the greatest of passions to be known
Is in what is wrenchingly uttered when facing the pains of the other
It’s in the desire to be known, to be seen with entirety
From charmed eyes that have journeyed beyond furthermost depths"

These are mesmerizing! I've always thought of being remembered, if not by all, but at least by the few I love..

Hi there. I've been surfing WC and landed here - what a nice place to land. I think there are 2 big things that I really like about this
(1) The opening lines 'if someone were to ... made even more wonderful by the return of the same words at the end, giving it a great closure. Really elegant and IMHO well crafted.
(2) Some of the pictures you describe of what I'd call real love are stunningly insightful. Yes, there's sexual passion in there, but your portrayal of love goes so much wider, deeper, more permanent; more cognitive.

Personally there were a few places where I would have liked a short connecting word to make the sense of a phrase flow better for my taste, but in the main I found this utterly delightful. Thank you very much for sharing it.

Best regards, Nigel

right on. love is the greatest thing. it is real and cannot be denied. you write of it here so beautifully. this flows so smoothly. lovely, elegant imagery. the words seem to float off of the page. you've perfectly described how love effects the soul and lives within. you write with passion and power. you write long because it is spilling out of you with abundance. you go girl! :)

Almost every line evokes a memory, or a perception of feelings held, shared or a desire to recapture. I can't pick one specifically. You have made the entirety greater than the sum of the parts.

Wow. It takes quite the journey to earn your love. I am definitely old; once upon a time love came by opening a door for her, pulling a chair out for her, buying her flowers or chocolates, hand holding, dancing with her, playing a musical instrument for her, walking alongside her (closest to the street) or telling her she was beautiful.
