Have you so easily forgotten
Of all the terrible things you've done
And yet, you still make such demands
As if all that I have given, all that I am
Has never once been enough

Where have you been when it is me in need?
Ask yourself what you've done for us
Where were you when the tears began to fall?
Held in yet another's arms
So don't scream at me of what it takes
How you so dare, dare to speak of love

I am above all this
This anger... This pain...
As all I have ever asked for are wings
If only to be permitted to fly
Fly on high

How many times do I have to say it?
Until I have choked, drowned on the repeating plea
How loudly do I have to yell before you'll hear me?
No voice left, until I've had no voice left
So don't scream to me of what it takes
How you so dare, dare to speak of love

I am beyond all this
These scars... These questions...
As all I have ever asked for are wings
If only to be permitted to fly
Fly on high

Did you think that I would just lie down?
Just let you continue to kick me around
Did you believe that I could overlook the truth?
As the only romance in my life, is the romance I create
So don't scream at me of what it takes
How you so dare, dare to speak of love

This loss... This weakness...

This time is for me, it's my turn to recieve

I struggled with the decision to post this piece... As sometimes we write things that we are not proud of, feel a certain way that we wish we didn't feel, and become something we don't want to become when it hurts. But sometimes one needs to remember...

While reading, I could feel anger, pain, hurt yet I sense pride or self worth. Writing I think is a good way to pour it all out. And after awhile one should be able to look Back at the work without feeling the pain but the beautiful art of writing poetry. Thank you for this lovely piece .

The repetitions reminds us that such disappointment and anger re-occurs for a long time - and it reinforces the central complaint of the poet - that her lover has used her and abused her and now she she breaks free demands to control her.

The depth of feeling is powerfully expressed and turned into consummate art. The structure holds it all together in a painful but cathartic outpouring.
