Why do I write?A Poem by Tobias RasmussenFor the true poet contest
Why do I write?
What gives the pen its might? why do I slave my way? when all I am is lazy? To whom do I owe fortune? To what should I answer its call? No, I am a poet I will sit and gloom. I will never release my pen until I fall. The pen is mightier than the sword? Then why does action speak louder than words? I will never know nor will I seek the truth. I couldn't care more and I'm a poet loose. My pen will scribble on heart and hand. I will mark you with my words, like a stick in the sand. Soon I'll be washed away again, Leaving no trace other than my pen. So when asked what a true poet is. I will refer to what once was told was his. He was the first to write it all down. He was the inspiration spreading through town. He was the one, the second and third. My poetry doesn't even compare to dirt on which he once sat his foot. I will still write though until he shoot. My pen, my hand, my paper and ink. What made me first write, think think think. Was it the sorrow of losing one held so dear? I guess that could have brought me a watery tear. However I find the answer to be. With poetry and poems I am finally free. It eases my pain and it works wonders good. Poetry is my opium, I feast on it like food. © 2014 Tobias RasmussenReviews
