The Reign of MorpheusA Poem by TM "Ree" Tateone of my more challenging writesThe gold orb, hangs low in the richly pigmented sky; it's dying rays tenderly caress ancient Mother Earth, turning water into shimmering hues, where it does lie. Jeweled leaves gently sway, upon ever darkening trees; The surfeit of luscious fruit revealing bountiful fertility. The wind whispers into the rapidly approaching night, Telling whimsical tales of idyllic days, now gone by. Softly sighing through gilded peaks, as it realizes its plight. A rich curtain of sable begins it's lethargic descent, Highlighting the triumphant moon's starkly slivered crescent. Morpheus comes to cradle all of creation in his timeworn arms, Silently encroaching upon life's boundless energy, he does reduce to slumber, with his impudent charms. For a few hours each night, he benignly does rule, Knowing his time is not without limits, that he is but a tool. The reign of Morpheus begins to end, he withdraws his hold, Retiring from his nightly work, slipping away, he watches. The sun bursts free from binding chains, with it's reborn glow Serenely bathing the world; rapidly ascending upward, Bringing life from the barren ashes of darkness, forward. © 2011 TM "Ree" TateAuthor's Note
