Mutual Acquaintances

Mutual Acquaintances

A Poem by Tom Moll

I've said it more than once I know

“I'm moving on today”

I've said more than once that I'm going to go

But now I have something different to say

No matter how many times I try

I can’t leave you behind

And I can’t lie

The harder I try the more you're on my mind

I can’t put you behind me

It’s too much for me to do

But I think I finally see

What I can do with you

You can’t be in front, you can’t be behind

You can’t be gone but you can’t be mine

But what about this, all that beside

What if I kept you at my side?

Not to love, but not to hate

Not to forget, but not to wait

Not to hold and not to date

Just to be there, I hope you can relate

I can’t leave you because it kills me

Without you in sight I just can’t get by

From your spell, maybe someday ill be free

“mutual acquaintances,” I guess I can try
