Fingerprints on My Heart

Fingerprints on My Heart

A Poem by Tom Moll

I'm afraid as I wonder what will happen next

Life; an idea so complex

Something as unpredictable as can be

It’s inevitable, can’t you see?

It’s going to happen no matter what we do

Life’s unpredictability is the only thing that’s constantly true

And as these fears run through my head

I shut my eyes just wanting to go to bed

But I know they won’t leave

My thoughts and dreams start to weave

Now I'm floating in space

In your warm embrace

Which I know I’ll feel soon

We leave footprints across the moon

Like you’ve left fingerprints across my heart

And if we do someday part

Our footprints, your fingerprints will always stay

They’ll never be washed away

You touch me everyday

Your soul, your body, your mind

With mine intertwined

Constantly remind

That love is blind

And I can’t see

The places that life can take you and me

The places we can go

No matter what, whether high or low

Our footprints, your fingerprints will always stay

They’ll never be forgotten or washed away

Because we’re leaving footprints across the moon

Like you’ve left fingerprints across my heart

And if someday I wake up alone

I’ll be okay knowing your love is something I've known

Because as your soul touches mine

And they both intertwine

A new love is defined

And love is blind

So I hope I wake up and see

You laying next to me

But if someday you're not here

I’ll hold our memories dear

And know that as our dreams and hopes weave

As our hearts both start to believe

In this thing called love, that will last forever

In this idea that is life's endeavor

That your love is like footprints on the moon

Whether awake or dreaming, I’ll be able to hold you soon

Your fingerprints will never fade away

And I’ll think about you every day.

Ohhhhhhhhh How lovely. The hopes but not clinging. The imagery is brilliant. The occasional repitition helps hold the long poem together and keep the focus.
`Your fingerprints will never fade away
And I’ll think about you every day.' I love this ending - so positive
