The Road I TookA Poem by Tom MollI don’t like the road I took to get here To this point in life With me, with you my dear All the fighting, the chaos and the strife Everyone I’ve hurt, every mistake I’ve made Everywhere I’ve been and everyone I've played Everyone I've had and everyone I've lost The times I fell short and the lines I've crossed I've learned enough to know I don’t know it all I've learned how to get up after I fall I've learned what matters and what doesn’t I know what is, what was and what wasn’t I know to hold onto things I love And to let go of things that don’t mean a thing It’s not worth taking to push and shove What good does that bring? You’ve taught me that the past is the past I've learned to let go of the things that didn’t last I've learned to hold on to the future Because nothing is for sure But you, because you stayed, and stayed true So instead of running, I chose to stay too And it was the best choice I've made so far Because I like where you are When you're next to me And after everything, I can see That the road I took to get here Is what makes me hold you so dear You're one of the few people that have stayed true In a life filled with things that have gone askew You're still by my side. Thank you Every day is a new day, its true Every day I check my phone and get an “I love you” Every day, and it reminds me where I am. Here. It reminds me why I hold you dear It reminds me of everything that’s mine And what I've given up and all the pain, is worth every dime I don’t think I say it enough, but thank you For being mine and for being true. © 2011 Tom Moll |
