Echoes Of How It Used to Be

Echoes Of How It Used to Be

A Poem by Thea M. Joy
"

For my daughter, Analeigh. We hope someday you find your way back to us baby girl... we miss you something terrible!

"
You came into this world
long before your time was here,
yet you showed us all
what it meant to fight,
what it meant to love.
The odds were against you,
there was so much
your tiny body had to endure,
and yet you overcame.

In the short time
you were home with us,
you brought such light and happiness
with those baby blue eyes that mesmerized
and a smile that captivated our hearts.

Since then, so much has changed.

Your world went dark,
your heart stopped beating
and our lives went still.
Somehow, in trying to find your way back
you got lost.
While you fight, yet again,
our home is dark and empty
and only the echoes of how it used to be
remain.

We'll wait for you
to find your way,
we'll hope and pray
that someday
you'll wake up
and we'll see that beautiful
baby girl we once knew.
Until then,
we're here fighting for you.

My daughter was born 14 wks early... was doing great until she stopped breathing a few weeks ago. We got her vitals back, but her mind is lost. She suffered extensive brain damage and the future seems a little bleak.

The sorrow in your voice is heartbreaking. You have a beautiful voice and I pray you find comfort in your writing.
