Oh, Troubled Soul

Oh, Troubled Soul

Oh, troubled soul
rest your head in my lap
for a while.
I'm not here to save you
from the demons
hidden within the shadows
of your mind,
and I can't deliver you
from the chains you feel
pressing against your throat.
I won't pretend
to have the answers
to the questions that haunt
your days and steal your nights.

Oh, troubled soul
let me stroke your hair
for a while.
Close your eyes
and let it all melt away,
if only for a moment.
Let my touch
serve as a shield
to keep the demons at bay.
Breathe a sigh
of sweet, gentle relief
pushing away the pain.
I'll be your comfort
for as long as you need.

Oh, troubled soul
rest your head in my lap
for a while.

This poem is interesting the way the speaker wants to comfort and yet is making no promises at effectively assuaging the pain but in the second stanza she is telling the troubled person to relax and let the troubles melt away.. this reminds me of my mother. There is only so much help a person can provide and I like this piece because it makes that clear distinction..kind of like saying
"I will be your sanctuary for a small while but I cannot be your escape or your solution that you must find on your own"
