More Scoops of Sugar

More Scoops of Sugar

A Screenplay by tmb219
"

This is the first and only animation short script I have written. I combined a few of my favorite things....dogs and the beach...to make unique characters with a realistic story.

                                                               FADE IN:
EXT. SANIBEL ISLAND - BEACH - LATE MORNING
Sugar Brown, a forty-five pound white poodle, stands on the
white, sandy beach next to Shark White, a sixty pound black
poodle, as they face the water. Sugar wears a pink skirt,
white ruffle tank top, and bare paws, while Shark is in his
               plaid shorts and bare paws.
The two walk on all fours down the beach, when Shark stops
suddenly and lays in the sand. He faces Sugar, and she stops
and looks at him. Her head tips slightly.
                                   SUGAR
What's wrong, Shark? What are you
                         doing?
Shark looks up at Sugar and still lays in the sand. She looks
back at him. His tail wags.
                                   SHARK
Sugar, will you make me the
happiest dog? Will you marry me?
Sugar's tail wags fast, and she spins around in circles.
                                   SUGAR
Oh, Shark! I'd love nothing more!
Shark's tail wags even more, and he stands up and circles
around Sugar. They both run in and out of the water, a little
               down the beach.
               Sugar stops suddenly.
                                   SHARK
What happened? Why are you just
                         standing there?
                                   SUGAR
                         There's just one thing...
                                   SHARK
                         And that would be?
                                   SUGAR
                         Your mom and dad, Shark.
                                   SHARK
                         Don't worry. It's okay.
                                   SUGAR
No, no. It's not. They hate me. I'm
                         different than your family, and
they don't like it. My family was
                         never rich like your parents.
                                   SHARK
Rich or not. It doesn't matter.
They'll have to be okay with it.
                                   SUGAR
                         It is what it is.
Sugar shakes her head no and continues to walk on the sand.
INT. SUGAR'S EBACH HUT - DAY
Sugar's beach hut is very small with windows all around. The
entire living space of the hut is all open and connects. It
is bright with light from the outside and sits right on the
               ocean.
Sugar stands next to her great big dog bed, closet open, and
looks out to the beach view. Dog clothes are spread all over
the bed with a few travel bags on the floor nearby.
Tires SQUEAL. Car door SLAMS. Sugar runs to look out the
window and sees Shark. He runs up the steps and through the
               doggy door. Sugar's tail wags.
                                   SUGAR
                         Hi!
Shark looks around the hut at the clothes and bags.
                                   SHARK
                         Hey! Are you almost packed?
                                   SUGAR
Yes. I guess I don't need much. Let
me just throw these things in the
                         bags.
She scurries around by the bed and places the items into the
travel bags neatly. Shark picks up one of the bags with his
mouth. Sugar picks up the other, and they run out of the hut.
               INT. SHARK'S CAR - DAY
Shark drives, and Sugar sits in the passenger seat. They
travel slowly down the main road of the island.
                                   SHARK
Where should we go to do this?
                                   SUGAR
Somewhere far enough away that no
one will find us. Like your
                         parents. Or SanDee.
                                   SHARK
                         True. But somewhere that has
                         wedding chapels.
                                   SUGAR
                         Orlando?
                                   SHARK
                         Perfect. Let's go.
Sugar looks out the window in silence.
INT. SANIBEL ISLAND - SHELL MANOR - DAY
Shark's parents, Mr. and Mrs. White, black poodles, each
about eighty pounds, run through the mansion. They both wear
dress clothes. Shell Manor has many rooms, a big upstairs, a
basement, and a huge outdoor area. There is a pool, deck, and
               big backyard.
                                   MR. AND MRS. WHITE
                             (yelling)
                         Shark, Shark!
Silence. They continue to run through the mansion and yell
for their son. They both run back to the kitchen, where their
daughter, SanDee, Sugar's best friend, stands.
                                   MRS. WHITE
SanDee! Have you seen Shark? Do you
                         know where he is?
SanDee tilts her head and looks at her mom, tail drops
               between her legs.
                                   SANDEE
                         Haven't seen him. Why? What's
                         wrong?
                                   MRS. WHITE
We can't find him anywhere. I'm
worried he's with Sugar. Have you
                         talked to her today?
SanDee takes her phone off the table and walks outside to the
               back patio.
                                   SANDEE
No. They probably went to meet up
                         with friends on the mainland.
               INT. SHARK'S CAR - DAY
Sugar's phone RINGS, and she startles. Without a beat she
answers before she looks to see who it is.
                                   SUGAR
                             (hesitates)
                         Uhh, hi SanDee. What's up?
                                   SANDEE (O.S.)
Are you with Shark by chance?
                                   SUGAR
                         Yes.
                                   SANDEE (O.S.)
                         Okay. Where are you?
                                   SUGAR
                         Why? What's wrong?
                                   SANDEE (O.S.)
Nothing. Just haven't heard from or
my brother. Where are you guys? I
figured you were together, since I
haven't talked to either of you.
                                   SUGAR
Yeah. We're actually in the car, so
                         I'll have to --
                                   SHARK
                             (to Sugar)
Did you say it was called In 'N'
                         Out Wedding Chapel?
                                   SANDEE (O.S.)
                             (yells)
Did I hear Shark say In 'N' Out
                         Wedding Chapel? Are you getting
                         married?
                                   SUGAR
Shh Shark. Uhh... We're just going
to Orlando for the day. Bye!
Sugar quickly gets off the phone and barks at Shark.
                                   SANDEE (O.S.)
                         Orlando! Sugar! Hello?
INT. SANIBEL ISLAND - SHELL MANOR - DAY
Mr. and Mrs. White stand in the kitchen by the windows which
look out to the back patio. Mrs. White begins to wag her tail
               quickly.
                                   MRS. WHITE
                             (to her husband)
Did ya hear that? I was trying to
                         listen to SanDee. She said
something about In 'N' Out Wedding
Chapel and Orlando! I think they
are running off to get married. We
                         have to stop them!
                                   MR. WHITE
Let's go. Get in the car. We'll go
                         to Sugar's first. Maybe they
                         haven't left yet!
                                   MRS. WHITE
                         It might be too late!
                                   MR. WHITE
                         Not if we hurry.
The two big dogs run full speed out of the kitchen and out
               the front door.
EXT. SUGAR'S EBACH HUT - DAY
Mr. and Mrs. White jump out of the car.
                                   MRS. WHITE
Her car is here, but they probably
                         took Shark's.
                                   MR. WHITE
Let's check inside just to make
                         sure.
INT. SUGAR'S EBACH HUT - DAY
The two poodles run through the doggy door and rush around
the entire living space. No one is there.
                                   MR. WHITE
The only thing we can do is try to
find that wedding chapel and stop
                         them.
Both dogs run out of the beach hut.
EXT. ORLANDO - IN 'N' OUT WEDDING CHAPEL - A FEW HOURS LATER -
               LATE AFTERNOON
Shark and Sugar pull in a parking space outside the wedding
chapel. The parking lot only holds a few cars. The chapel is
white, and the landscaping is neat, with fresh cut grass and
               flowers all around.
               Sugar looks at Shark.
                                   SHARK
What do you think? This where you
                         want to go?
                                   SUGAR
It looks nice from the outside.
                         Let's check it out.
They run out of the car and through the great big doggy door
in the front of the chapel.
INT. ORLANDO - IN 'N' OUT WEDDING CHAPEL - LATE AFTERNOON
The inside is clean and fancy with red carpet and crystal
chandeliers. There are big windows and a marble desk in the
foyer of the chapel. A big St. Bernard sits at the desk in a
white dress. She looks up at them.
Shark turns to Sugar and wags his tail. He spins in a circle.
                                   SHARK
                         You like it, right?
                                   SUGAR
Oh yes! I love it here. It's so
                         nice and fancy.
She looks at the St. Bernard at the front desk.
                                   ST. BERNARD
Are you two interested in getting
married today? We have an opening
after the couple who is in right
                         now.
                                   SUGAR AND SHARK
                         Yes please!
                                   ST. BERNARD
Okay, I'll just need you both to
fill out a few papers first. Then,
                         you will be ready!
The St. Bernard hands Shark and Sugar some papers and a pen.
They fill out the paperwork to get married.
Sugar's phone RINGS. She looks at it and looks up at Shark.
                                   SUGAR
                         It's SanDee again.
                                   SHARK
                         Don't answer it.
