Chapter 7

"

I woke. On a bed. I kept my eyes closed, but I could hear voices. It was cold and I could feel the wind blowing through the thin canvas tent. My phone beeped. Then again. Two new messages. Maybe a missed phone call. I opened my eyes and to my surprise it was dark. I guessed it was about 10:30, but when I looked at my phone it said 2:46 am. My phone read 2 missed calls and 1 new message. I opened the phone calls. Both from Mum and Dad. The message was from Eric.

Cassi,

Vince is recovering, but still connected to machines. We will be home in about 2 days.

By the way, check the radio.

Eric.

“Check the radio?” I said in a worried tone.

“What?” I heard that voice again. Like an angels voice. Jeremy’s voice. It was so calming.

Then I realized I was asked a question.

“Oh, uh, WAIT! Go and get the bloody radio” So he got it and turned it up. It kept cutting out.

All we heard was this ;

“Everybody needs to get out, Typhoon is coming, Be gone in half an hour”

Thats all we heard, enough to know it wasn’t safe anymore.

“Okay, guys, we have half an hour to get as far out of here as possible. Pack bags do whatever, just be back here in 5 minutes.

_______________________________

I knew this was going to be the last few minutes of my life. I saw it flash right in front of my eyes.

“F**K, F**K, F**K!” I heard Quinn yell as he got pelted by rain and hail. Elise and Paige cried, Jeremy held me so close I was  feeling hot and Mike just hid and did nothing, as if it wasn’t happening. I couldn’t handle it, I felt like going out there and being shaken to death. It was so violent. The shelter we hid under was nearly falling apart and was slowly flying away. I saw houses being ripped apart, animals being killed. It was horrible. I closed my eyes and hope for the best. But it didn’t get any better, it got worse. I started raining. Heavy. Water began rising really quick and in two minutes, it was up to my ankles.

Before I could do anything, I heard a scream.

“Oh my f*****g God” I realized what Jeremy was talking about. A woman and her child, being thrown around like little dolls. I heard them scream, it was so terrifying, I put my hands over my ears. There was nothing we could do. We watched two humans lose their lives to Mother Nature. Before I realized, the rain was nearly up to my knees. I had to do something.

“Okay, guys, we have to get out of here...” I couldn’t finish my sentence.

“We have to get un into a building” yelled Elsie, I knew she was sick, and this was going to make her worse.

“NO, we can’t go to a building, we’ll be ripped from the roof or the building will fall. We need to find a way to get into the town”

“We could run” suggested Mike.

“No, we wouldn’t make it. Uhh... I’ve got it! We need to climb the trees, swing from one to the other until we make it far enough that the flooding hasn’t gotten to deep. With me? Paige? Elsie? Can you do that?”

“I could try, but I might not get far” You could hear he fright in Paige’s voice, I wasn’t scared for myself, I was scared that I might lose my friends. But it was a risk worth taking.

“Okay, Elise?”

“Okay, I might have to stop on the way though” I couldn’t help but grin.
