PosterA Poem by tkershI stop eating My friend talks on but his words have become sounds I can't follow Instead I can't stop looking into their faces on the poster Plastered on the dusty coke machine Lost? run away? stolen? I am flooded with teddy bears and birthdays, pink dresses and smiles Rooms still hung with posters, single dirty socks peeking from unmade beds Shoes and diaries and blue ribbons, Refrigerators still hum with slices of leftover cake or hamburgers with bites of perfect teeth imprints How do they keep on, the parents who yesterday read them tuck-in stories Looking into their bright eyes Who worked every day to drop quarters into college funds With full faith in the unbroken forward flow of life Fell asleep to whispered dreams of far future grandchildren How do they go on, these parents who see their lives in an instant Reduced to a thousand copies of a face on a flier?
How can I go on, and eat? Ever again until I have walked every road and searched every shadow Until I have found every one of those faces, or maybe dragged every person in the world out of their beds to look with me. © 2012 tkershReviews
