TorMent

TorMent

A Poem by tj808

The darkness shone, the moon lost screaming

Demons reared ugly heads, guttural, growling

Tempting me to be all that I hate - I wriggled

Uneasily I groaned for some god rescue me

My mind flickered images chaotic; uncontrollable

No god came. No spirit so light, so warm

Only gargoyles giggling a swarm, buzz a bat-like

Rat-like, crawling from the lower sewers; the pits

The dark, dark pits of depression hummed, moaned

Screaming mumblings, can’t talk, can’t relate -

If you hear me now, put me in a white padded cell

For that will be the force that will let this run freely.

To give breath to the darkness like oxygen to fire

Let this burn, let TorMent burn to soft light ash.

I've written poetry since my teens. I am now 50+. I have changed my style over the years and I read my old poetry with some embarrassment - as I will in 10 years time when I read the poetry I write no.. more..
