Unseen

Unseen

A Poem by Tifern

A lover, she had, though no one could see
One who lifted her spirits
When she needed to flee
A figment of mind's eye;
That she so believed
It would make her cry

'Henry' she named him
'Mary' he named her
And 'love' they called it
One that no one could stir

He was there, he was real,
She was convinced
And followed his word
But not once she winced

When he was around
The world seemed to fade
They said she'd gone crazy!
Due to actions displayed

So adamant she was
So completely involved
That this was her life
Not some riddle unsolved
He was the one
So she followed him out
Into the sun

Their feet lined up
At the edge of the cliff
Her eyes drifted down
And her body went stiff
'Forever' he spoke
Their fingers entwined
They leaped off together
Her thoughts left behind

And as I watched from afar
I let out a groan
For everyone knew
That girl jumped alone

An interesting read. You made it clear from the opening line that something wasn't right, and kept me intrigued and guessing right up until the end. It's really thought-provoking, and has a kind of sincerety to it that made me really feel for the poor girl, and wonder why she felt so unloved that she decided, subconsciously or not, that her only choice was to create her own. My emotions were definitely affected, it's fair to say. But this is very well written for a first attempt. Engaging a reader's attention is one of the most, if not THE most important part of a poem, and you certainly did that. Keep it up dear, I wish you luck with continuing your writing!
