Whips to my Strength

Whips to my Strength

A Poem by Tiss Proper
"

Internal battle of not giving in to the ones that mean nothing.

"
She is impervious to all my hints.
And threatens my very solitude.
Ohh! but how she tempts.
And weakens my waning fortitude.

The thoughts of her lips are like whips to my strength.
And I am weak.

I've said 'no' so many times before.
Yet, must I continue?
Hard to remember what I said 'no' for.
Is it so important to hold true?

The thoughts of her hips are like whips to my strength.
And I am weak.

I ask myself why I so boldly hold back,
And no real reason finds me.
Every second comes another attack,
While I'm stuck to question in misery:

"What do I desire more, the flesh or the mind?"
Sometimes that answer is hard to find.
Cause thoughts of their lips are like whips to my strength.
And I am weak.

This poem shows an awful lot without telling. The 'hook line' of the piece is very effective in conveying the ambiguous question of what is or is not the right thing to do.. Which is more important? Which is more the dangerous? Physical or spiritual love...? No answer is found within this poem and therein lies the answer..
I could argue that sex should come first and love after, but every experience and virtue is peculiar to each individual. It could even be that passion is the beginning of love. Or, by giving in to its solicitations, are you misleading someone?
It raises many moral questions, and as many personal ones...
It also brings to mind the whole vexed question of temptation and adultery..
Both proverbial sins that bear the weight of a little understanding and sympathy... the human soul is far from perfect ..or even lucid..
A very worthy examination of the subject, and gracefully-conveyed..

Total addiction methinks of one who should be no more than a friend.

This is quite good and I know the feeling down to the marrow of my bones. The thought of her lips are like whips to my strength, and I am more then weak, I am a total wuss.

This is absolutely wonderful!
Quality poetry.

"The thoughts of her lips are like whips to my strength.
And I am weak."

I love how the words just roll off of my tongue.
I love the "inner-dialogue" sort of feel to it.

Great write!
