Diamond Cuts

Diamond Cuts

A Poem by Choosing Life

Memories cut me like diamonds in my mind
As I try to recall what our hello was like
Seems we have gotten so far away
From the sweetness that used to lace my smile
and know my stomach aches
As if I have been chewing on broken glass
Remembering last touches
When heart beats raced like the sound of light
And our palms touched,
Never sweaty
Always just right,
Like when your eyes found mine with yours
And our lips met perfectly
Greeting each other
 With such emotion
And I thought…
 I found my heart
 And I thought…
But now I try to remember what our hello was like
When you used to fill my mind
With such happy thoughts
Passing the day with my feet firmly pressed against air
 I soared…
But for the life of me I can’t remember why…
As I live out our final times
And remember our love, no more…
But I know you again when my feet touch…

I really enjoyed this poem and the metaphors you used to illustrate the distance between you and the person in question especially this phrase,

"Seems we have gotten so far away
From the sweetness that used to lace my smile"

I like the idea of not remembering what "hello" is like, it seems like such a basic word but used in this poem it carried a great deal of power. Relationships change for all sorts of reasons and I could feel the emotion interwoven in your words. Very nicely done.
