Over StandA Poem by Choosing LifeReminiscent of vision Yet to take shape I relate to the inner voice That paints life a miracle Obstacles become building blocks And I forget what has been lost By climbing on the Rock Safety a matter of thinking not speech Safely under the security of bigger and better things My dreams sweet like cotton candy Melting on a mind Delicious Sometimes I rise higher than I knew possible And I need not Though I want a lot I am full of love and life Knowing being wronged doesn't mean I am right I eat of knowledge and drink in truth Feasting on eternal things For what is of this earth shall surely die Pass away like desert sands Carried in the winds of change But true substance remains And stains a society that shuns pureness Replacing honesty with piety Engrained in the brains of gluttony Grasping for straws while losing it all For minutes spent in shadows I watch us fall But we don't comprehend The severity of greediness Quick minutes of selfish gratification Breeds death And I dream That the Life in me would resurrect a dying age Before the pages turn And history burns our names Erasing us from the beauty we once were As we shuffle along as victims Forgetting we are more than conquerors I dream that our speech will be fruity Dropping seeds of encouragement Our new duty to raise a righteous nation Calling darkness dark And introducing light to the youthful minds blinded By things that only appear to shine Because being golden is a refined state of mind That chooses to live instead of die © 2008 Choosing Life |
