The DanceA Poem by Choosing LifeUnmet needs leads young hearts to crave
A smoke filled room
Masked the silence
That cut me deep
I remember yesterday
As if it were here
And my apprehensions rest
On what never came to be
While tears chase me down
And blue and red lights flash
Over music played to loud.
Eyes peek around the corner
And I fix my face
By faking a smile
His hand invites me to follow
And on the floor his lead guides me
But my heart cringes
Because this body is not yours
But I don’t want to be alone
And this song plays on
As hot drunken breath whispers
Words slurred against my soul
And pieces of me die
Wanting to hide
I welcome the end
As he lets his hands slide down
Pass my waist
He calls me beautiful
And says familiar opening lines
As my eyes roll
At the thought of his touch
But emptiness beckons me
To remain in the dance…
