Last Respects

Last Respects

A Poem by Choosing Life
"

The Power Of Two Words

"

Goodbye
Such a short
Knife in time
Ending moments
Splitting time in two
Before and after
So crisp
And clean
Cuts on hearts
Cuts on souls
Final thoughts
Rest unsettled
On chest
And antacids
Don’t cure heart burn
I know
Because I tried
To smile
 And be fine
About
Two words
So sharp
And so hard
That they cut diamonds
Into fragments
Slash thoughts
And forever
On the drop of a dime
They make love invisible
Remove the finest person
You ever knew
In less time
Than it takes
To receive air into lungs
And goodbye
Means final resting place
The buck stops here
So to speak
Don’t look at me
As my eyes bleed
Tears of hurt
Run over
The incisions
On my soul
Goodbye
Is the best surgeon
I ever did know
Cutting life from hello
Cutting the life off of hello
And as my ink spits out last breaths
My pen in silence
Pays last respects
And on this line
You watch our death
As we lay our love
Our thoughts
And ink to rest
